Hunt Unit 76

Colorado’s Unit 76 is known for its rugged high country, limited tags, and exceptional elk habitat. This is remote, demanding terrain — and one of the most sought-after public-land hunts in the state.

Lost Trail Outfitters offers fully guided hunts for elk, moose, and mule deer in Unit 76, along with bighorn sheep hunts in Unit 33. We encompasses some of the highest altitude elk hunts in the country. Our guides know this country and bring a lifetime of experience hunting. Our hunts are fair-chase, backcountry experiences led by guides with experience in this country.

Unit 76 is often a once-in-a-lifetime draw. When the tag finally comes, we believe it’s worth doing right.

Lost Trail Outfitters operates in Colorado’s highly sought-after Unit 76; a vast, rugged region known for limited tags, low hunting pressure, and strong elk numbers. With multiple backcountry camp locations and optional cabin lodging, we’re prepared for a wide range of weather and hunting conditions throughout the season.

Our guides are selected for their deep knowledge of the country, proven hunting ability, and respect for the land and animals they pursue. They know how to hunt this terrain, read elk behavior, and adapt daily to changing conditions; from shifting weather patterns to elk movement and hunting pressure.

Our base camps are strategically located in remote, high-mountain valleys and accessed by horseback. This allows hunters to stay close to prime areas, shorten daily travel, and adjust locations as conditions dictate throughout the hunt. We handle camp, meals, horses, and logistics so hunters can focus on the hunt. Each day includes a pre-dawn breakfast, field lunches and snacks, and a hearty dinner with dessert back at camp.

Our goal is simple: put hunters in good country, hunt it the right way, and deliver a demanding, well-run backcountry experience that’s earned.

At Lost Trail Outfitters, we provide fully guided hunts in some of the most rugged, remote, and beautiful elk country in the West. Our experienced guides know this land well — how the elk move, where they live, and the strategies that create the best opportunities in demanding terrain.

Our backcountry camps are comfortable, efficient, and well run. Canvas wall tents with woodstoves offer a warm place to rest at day’s end, and hearty, well-prepared meals fuel long days in the mountains; from steak dinners to homemade cornbread and chili, all served deep in the backcountry.

Each hunt is customized to the individual hunter. We keep our numbers limited, focusing on quality over quantity and ensuring personal attention throughout your experience. Whether you prefer a steady, manageable pace or are ready to push hard into rough country, we tailor the hunt to match your goals and abilities.

While we handle logistics, meals, and camp operations, hunting in this country requires effort and commitment. Expect steep terrain, long days, and earned opportunities. When an animal is harvested, our guides provide proper field care and prepare your game for transport from horse-accessible locations.
